The Almanac's Take
Gilbert is the cleanest arm on a deep 30-game slate — 6.4 projected Ks over 6.2 innings against a Minnesota lineup the data flags as specifically vulnerable to his pitch mix, all at 1.5 projected ER. Yamamoto matches him projection-for-projection (6.4 K, 6.2 IP, 1.5 ER) against Boston, but seven days of extended rest is a real flag worth pricing in; his 2.72 season ERA makes the matchup hard to walk away from regardless. Fried draws the Cubs at 1.5 ER and 6.3 projected Ks with high confidence and no flags — quieter name on a loud board, but the profile is clean. Hicks against Tampa Bay is medium confidence only, so temper expectations there even with the favorable matchup.
